Each workout can consist of a total of around 15-25 sets, but the number of sets for a specific muscle group in that workout should be at around 10 or below.

There is no such disadvantage of push ups and pull ups. It is only that you need to have considerable strength in your bicep and lat musculature to do them properly and in correct posture, else the exercise will not have significant effect in our body.
